We all strive to look the best we possibly can, whether that’s with the hottest fashions, the sleekest haircut or the latest ‘miracle anti-ageing’ beauty products. It is now commonplace to also use cosmetic surgery to further enhance our assets, a subtle nip and tuck here and there can work wonders for improving body image and self-confidence.
Thanks to Hollywood, we are aware of all manner of cosmetic surgery procedures that are available. In every magazine, we get to witness the amazing effects that surgery has on different celebrities, and not only does it open our eyes to what is possible it also highlights when people have gone too far! We are all familiar with nose jobs, thread vein surgery and tummy tucks, and many of us opt for these procedures as a matter of course, but what about the more taboo surgical processes?
When the fashion trend for women was revealed as being a designer vagina, many of us couldn’t believe it. But far from being the latest Hollywood gimmick, believe it or not, for many women gynaecological reconstructive surgery can be life-changing. It has been a taboo subject for so long that many women just didn’t know that the procedure was available, resulting in them living with discomfort or embarrassment whilst suffering in silence.
Thankfully now, gynaecological reconstructive surgery isn’t a taboo subject anymore and certainly isn’t a subject to shy away from. So, we know it goes on, but what exactly is it and why would a woman need, or even want it?
Vaginoplasty
Vaginoplasty or vaginal tightening is a procedure undertaken to enhance the feelings of sexual gratification, enabling a woman to receive and give more pleasure during sexual intercourse. Women who have experienced vaginal childbirth would be the most likely to benefit from vaginoplasty, as the vaginal muscles stretch during delivery, which can leave them weak and loose. The procedure is relatively straightforward and is carried out with an injection to the back (spinal ) or putting you to sleep ( general) anaesthetic, it involves shortening the stretched muscles at the back of the vagina and removing any excess skin.
Labiaplasty
Labiaplasty or labia reduction surgery is generally performed for cosmetic reasons, where patients feel their labia is larger than average affecting self-confidence. This is by far the commonest cosmetic vaginal surgery all over the world. On some occasions the labia may protrude, causing discomfort during sports such as running or cycling. It can also be uncomfortable during sexual intercourse, and of course, there is the embarrassment factor that women might experience during intimacy. The procedure involves reducing and reshaping the labia minora and can be performed under general or local anaesthetic. Most of the women prefer this under local anaesthetic. Complications are very rare. There is a variety of techniques for labiaplasty depending on several medical factors and expected outcome. Your surgeon will discuss the options at the pre-operative consultation visit before you decide your preferred choice of procedure and expected appearance.
G-Spot Augmentation
G-Spot augmentation, or amplification, is a procedure that temporarily increases sexual pleasure by increasing the size and sensitivity of the G-Spot by means of an injection. As many women are unable to locate the elusive G-Spot, this procedure enlarges it, making it easier to find during intercourse. This is done under local anaesthetic and takes only a few minutes before returning to your usual daily activities.
Hymenoplasty
Hymenoplasty, or hymen reconstruction surgery is the surgical restoration of the hymen (the membrane that surrounds and partially covers the vaginal opening). Hymen repair is a simple operation that involves stitching the torn edges or hymen with fine dissolvable stitches. The hymen has a secondary layer that will be sown up to cover the torn skin and as it grafts together, will appear intact. Women usually choose this procedure due to personal or specific cultural reasons. This can be performed with or without labiaplasty or vaginoplasty at the same time.
