What is eye lid surgery (Blepharoplasty)?

Commonly known as an eyelid reduction, a blepharoplasty is a simple, safe and quick procedure to remove excess fat or skin from the eyelids with the aim of improving drooping, hooded or misshaped eyelids. With age, our muscles slacken and the skin loses its elasticity. For the eyelids, this results in folds in the upper lids and deepening creases in the lower lids which can affect eyesight and change the shape of our eyes.

A blepharoplasty is an effective way to restore a youthful appearance around the eye area and can be carried out under local or general anaesthetic on the lower eyelids/eye bags, upper eyelids or both. What happens during blepharoplasty?

From your first call or email, we’re here to look after you. Whether you’re still researching about blepharoplasty and would like more information, or you’re ready to meet a surgeon to see what results you can achieve, our team of Patient Co-ordinators are here for you.

Consultation

Prior to your operation, you’ll be asked to come in for a free consultation with a surgeon so that they can better understand your concerns and then examine your eyes. This will last between 20-45 minutes during which time the surgeon will discuss the procedure, post-surgery support and aftercare, as well as things you can do at home for added comfort to assist the recovery.

Pre-Operation

Prior to your Blepharoplasty surgery, you will be invited into a pre-operative assessment with a member of our medical team so that we can appraise your medical health to ensure that you are in good condition for surgery. This process will involve a blood/urine sample being taken as well as an MRSA test.

Finally, the nurse will photograph your eyes before surgery for our medical records. There’s no rush here, so you’ll have plenty of time to speak with the nurse and get answers to any questions or points of interest you might have .

After this, you’ll be able to keep in touch if you have any questions between the pre-op and the day of your surgery!

Surgery

On the day of your Blepharoplasty, you will attend our privately owned hospital with free on-site parking and large rooms with en-suites to ensure your comfort before and after surgery. Your nurse and surgeon will then assess your health and ask for a further consent form to be signed before being taken to theatre.

For the operation, you will be placed under general or local anaesthetic, and the procedure will take around two hours.

Post-Surgery

After surgery, we are keen to have you back in the clinic so we can monitor the results and see how you're recovering. Our Patient experience team will book you in for post op appointments at 1, 2 and 6 weeks.

Aftercare

The most important thing to remember when you’re a patient at Pall Mall is that we are always willing to help you at any point along your journey. So if you want to keep in touch or arrange further appointments please bear in mind we have a 24/7 line directly to our wonderful nurses. What happens during breast enlargement surgery?

Breast augmentation/enlargement surgery requires an incision to be made in the breast so that a surgical grade implant can be inserted behind or in front of the chest muscle, underneath the natural tissue. When the implant is in position, the incision will be closed with stitches, and depending on the patient’s individual circumstances, these may dissolve or may need removing at your first pre-operative appointment in clinic.

The procedure requires going under general anaesthesia and is expected to take between approximately 60 minutes, depending on the extent of surgery required.

Can a rhinoplasty surgery help with breathing problems?

Yes – a rhinoplasty isn’t just a cosmetic procedure. Specific surgical techniques during the procedure can improve breathing issues.

How long will it take for me to recover from a rhinoplasty surgery?

Patients typically need between one and two weeks off work to recover from a rhinoplasty. It might be several months before the full effect of the operation can be visible, and up to six months for the swelling to completely go down.
