Breast augmentation/enlargement surgery requires an incision to be made in the breast so that a surgical grade implant can be inserted behind or in front of the chest muscle, underneath the natural tissue. When the implant is in position, the incision will be closed with stitches, and depending on the patient’s individual circumstances, these may dissolve or may need removing at your first pre-operative appointment in clinic.

The procedure requires going under general anaesthesia and is expected to take between approximately 60 minutes, depending on the extent of surgery required.

The procedure itself only requires between 1-2 hours in theatre and can be done under local or general anaesthesia.

Firstly, anaesthetic fluid is placed on the area.

Then, small incisions are made on or around the area that fat will be removed.

Using a power-assisted liposuction machine, the surgeon breaks up the fat, using carefully selected frequency vibrations, and withdraws it through a cannula.

This is repeated for each area of the face.

Once all the fat is removed, the cannula is removed and the incisions are closed using dissolvable sutures.

After the procedure, most patients return to work within a few days – 1 week. Swelling and bruising may appear, but should fully fade within a few weeks.

The procedure is suitable for any patient with a relatively stable body weight, where there is excess skin / fat present on the facial area. The procedure is also able to remove “double chins” and remove excess fat around the mid and lower face.

You may face mild discomfort, however painkillers and ice pack/heat compression will alleviate most of the pain. Swelling typically disappears after 10 days and the recommended compression garment will speed up the recovery process.

The surgeon will carefully make small incisions along the natural folds on the face – under the jawline / chin – hence scars are very discreet and often not visible at all.
