What is Labiaplasty surgery?

Labia reduction surgery (also known as labiaplasty) is becoming an increasingly popular procedure for women who are concerned about the shape and size of their labia, whether it is a result of natural childbirth, age, or even weight loss. Labiaplasty surgery can reshape and reduce the size and prominence of your labia Minora/Majora, the inner and outer ‘lips’ that surround the opening of the vagina. It can also help to get rid of discomfort caused by wearing certain clothing or doing activities such as cycling or even having sexual intercourse. At Pall Mall we understand that labiaplasty is a delicate and very personal surgery, so we do everything we can to make sure you are comfortable and well-informed about the procedure and recovery process. One of our Patient Co-ordinators will be with you throughout your journey and will be on hand to answer all of your questions, no matter how personal. Our Consultant Gynaecologists have performed thousands of labiaplasty procedures and will recommend the best approach to achieve your desired result.

We have experience of delivering 5 star services to over 10,000 patients every year.

This is why our patients rate us Excellent on Trustpilot.

What happens during a labiaplasty?

From your first call or email, we’re here to support you. Whether you’re researching about a labiaplasty and would like more information, or you’re ready to meet a surgeon to see what results you can achieve, our team of patient co-ordinators are here to help.

Consultation

For women, a Labiaplasty surgery can be a very nerve-wracking experience and therefore we recommend that during the consultation, you ask as many questions as possible to alleviate any worries. The session lasts 20-45 minutes meaning you have plenty of time to get all the knowledge you require after the surgeon has examined the area and discussed the results and concerns of the operation.

Pre-Operation

Labiaplasty is a straightforward procedure however naturally it can still cause some concern for women which we completely understand. Therefore to allay these fears, we like invite you to the surgery in the lead up to the operation for both a medical check-up to make sure you are in good health and capable of the surgery whilst also allowing you to get any worries off your chest.

Surgery

When you arrive at the hospital for your surgery you will be greeted by your nurse and surgeon and shown to your comfortable room with en-suite. They will inspect your health to make sure your fit and well for the operation and finally ask for a final consent form to be signed.

Once you are in the theatre you will be sedated with a local or general anaesthetic and the excess skin will be trimmed and reshaped before beginning to apply the absorbable sutures. Whilst it is natural to be worried, the operation is very simple and will only last one hour.

Post-Surgery

After the surgery, you will be asked to return to the clinic and see either a surgeon or nurse regularly over the next six weeks, usually at week 1, 2 and 6. This way you can have some reassurance that you are healing correctly and are recovering as normal.

Aftercare

At Pall Mall, we are extremely proud of every step of the journey we go on with you, including our aftercare. If you want to get in touch with us after your surgery you can contact one of our nurses 24/7 or you are welcome to attend further check-ups at our clinic.

Frequently Asked Questions.

Our expert team are always hand to help, advise and arrange appointments with our specialist consultants.

What happens during breast enlargement surgery?

Breast augmentation/enlargement surgery requires an incision to be made in the breast so that a surgical grade implant can be inserted behind or in front of the chest muscle, underneath the natural tissue. When the implant is in position, the incision will be closed with stitches, and depending on the patient’s individual circumstances, these may dissolve or may need removing at your first pre-operative appointment in clinic.

The procedure requires going under general anaesthesia and is expected to take between approximately 60 minutes, depending on the extent of surgery required.

What happens on the day of breast enlargement surgery?

When the day of your surgery arrives you will be greeted at the hospital by our staff and shown to your comfortable and spacious room. They’ll be a quick check-up to make sure you’re feeling well and healthy enough for the operation and then you’ll be taken to theatre for the surgery.

The operation, which will take two hours, will then begin and the implants you have selected will be placed either behind or infront of the breast muscle.

What happens during breast enlargement surgery pre-op?

A nurse will perform a series of checks on your health prior to your surgery, so we request that you come in for an appointment. Here you will be checked for MRSA as well as possibly undertaking a urine or blood test. We just want to make sure there are no complications further down the line and calm any nerves or anxieties you might have!

Your surgeon will also check your chest and take photos so that we have a medical record before the changes occur. Please use this opportunity to ask any questions or raise any concerns and our amazing team will be happy to help.

What happens during breast enlargement surgery post-op?

After this surgery, you will be able to go home on the same day however you will be required to wear a sports bra for several weeks to help your breasts settle. We will also arrange for you to come in for further appointments after one week, two weeks and six weeks. This way we can manage your progress and also give you the support so you don’t feel alone and anxious about any complications.

Please bear in mind that everyone recovers at their own rate, but avoid your normal activities for at least 2 weeks.

What is the aftercare for breast enlargement surgery?

Our aftercare programme put you at the centre and our staff are committed to helping you at every stage of your recovery. We’ll be in contact with a 24/7 support line to connect you to our industry-leading nurses and make sure you are completely happy with your surgery.

Why might you choose to have a rhinoplasty surgery?

Patients choose to have a rhinoplasty for different reasons. Either to repair their nose after an injury, to correct breathing problems or because they’re unhappy with the appearance of their nose and would like to change the shape.

Can a rhinoplasty surgery help with breathing problems?

Yes – a rhinoplasty isn’t just a cosmetic procedure. Specific surgical techniques during the procedure can improve breathing issues.

How long will it take for me to recover from a rhinoplasty surgery?

Patients typically need between one and two weeks off work to recover from a rhinoplasty. It might be several months before the full effect of the operation can be visible, and up to six months for the swelling to completely go down.

Can I have labiaplasty if I've not had children yet?

Yes – if you haven’t had children yet and the appearance of your labia are causing you physical or emotional discomfort then you are able to have the procedure before childbirth.

What is the recovery time for labiaplasty surgery?

It can take six to eight weeks for the area to fully heal enough for sexual intercourse, but you should be able to return to an active lifestyle within two to four weeks.

What are potential complications of a labiaplasty?

All surgeries come with some degree of risk. Some of the possible complications of a labiaplasty include bleeding, infection, scarring, reduced sensitivity.

Fortunately, labiaplasty risks are small and complications are rare. Your surgeon will talk to you about the risks and benefits in detail at your consultation and pre operation appointments.
