What is a private sick note (Med 3 Form)?

As part of our Private GP service, we are fully able to provide patients with a convenient appointment to obtain a private sick note - commonly referred to as a Med 3 Form, a Statement of Fitness for Work. Depending upon the level of your sickness, a Standard 30-minute appointment is recommended to get to the root cause of your illness and suggest a treatment plan to help resolve it. Where appropriate, our GP’s can then recommend that you be signed off from work whilst you seek treatment or recovery time. As a private healthcare service, we provide the same sick note Med3 forms as the NHS but with a faster turnaround time with GP availability same day or next day in most cases - all done at our CQC-certified clinics in the city centre of both Liverpool & Manchester. If you are unable to attend work or your college/university, we are able to provide private Med 3 certificates or a private sick note to cover your absence as well as diagnosis and treatment of minor illnesses if needed. We can also provide a sick note with specific details depending on your workplace or organisation's requirements when requested. If your sickness requires a greater level of investigation, we can also offer a full range of private healthcare services, and occupational health services such as an independent medical opinion when needed.

What happens during a telephone or video appointment?

You can expect the same treatment you’d recieve in-clinic from your private doctor - but you can take it in the comfort of your own home through telephone or video link.

In terms of content, a telephone or video consultation will go through the exact same processes as if you were having a chat in-person, where you can discuss your concerns and symptoms.

From here, your GP can suggest treatment options and next steps, such as a scan, medication, further testing or a referral to one of our specialist consultants.

The doctor will contact you at the number you provide when you book a telephone appointment. Similarly, if you choose a video consultation, you’ll receive an email with a link.

When it’s time for your appointment, all you have to do is click on the link and follow the simple instructions to join your GP on video.

Our virtual GP surgeries are designed with you in mind.

So whether you’re out and about or settled at home, make sure you’re in a comfortable, quiet spot where no one can overhear you.

How long does it take to get a private sickness certificate?

At Pall Mall Medical, we provide the same sickness certificate as the NHS – the Med3 form. However, as we’re a private healthcare provider, we’re able to offer a quicker turnaround period by offering a same-day or next-day standard 30-minute GP appointment. This means you could leave with a sickness certificate that day – at the GP’s discretion. Sickness certificates are only required if you have been absent from work due to illness for seven days or more.

What happens during the appointment?

At your appointment your GP will discuss your medical issue with you and help to decide a suitable treatment plan. If appropriate, your GP may recommend that you are signed off work for a period of time.

Is a private sick note as good as a Med3 NHS sickness certificate form?

Yes. As a private healthcare provider, we use the same sickness certificate as the NHS – the Med3 form.

Do I need to be referred to get a private sickness certificate?

No. You can discuss the option of a sickness certificate at your appointment with a private GP if they see fit.

Do I need an appointment to get a private sickness certificate?

No. If you have been absent from work due to illness for seven days or more and you’re unable to attend an appointment in person, you can obtain a sickness certificate via a phone consultation with a private GP.
